400SC boot from SATA problems
I've got a Dell 400SC with A08 bios. I installed a Serial ATA drive in
the system and was attempting to use that as the primary boot drive with an IDE drive also installed on the system for additional file storage. I installed Fedora Core 3 on the SATA drive and when the system boots, it freezes when trying to boot. It seems the system defaults to booting from the SATA drive if one is installed. So I installed the MBR onto the IDE drive with directing it to actually boot from the SATA drive. This works if I load the boot menu (F12) and then pick Primary IDE drive. However, I can't automate this process. So I'm looking for the answer to one of two questions: 1) How can I get the machine to boot from the SATA drive directly? 2) How can I force the IDE drive to boot even if an SATA drive is installed? Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks, Steve |
