"Last Modified" file date problem with Maxtor Shared Storage
Hello together,
since a few weeks I use the 300GB Maxtor Share Storage as an external Backup Drive. It works pretty well, except a problem which I have with the "Last Modified" and "Last Accessed" File Dates. Lets assume a file which is stored on the local hard drive is Created : 3-oct-05 Last Modified : 1-dec-05 Last Accessed (for Viewing) : 27-dec-05 After copying the file to the Maxtor Shared Storage "Last Modified" and "Last Accessed" will become the same, both 1-dec-05. This is ok. After viewing or copying (or any other read-only access) a file on the Maxtor Shared Storage the "Last Modified" file date will be changed to the current date. "Last Accessed" keeps unchanged (1-dec-05). This is always the case, i.e. with every access to the file, the "Last Modified" date will be updated. The causes heavy problems with my backup software or even when I just copy documents to the Maxtor Shared Storage because I do not know which version is the newer one, local drive or shared storage. Nero Backup for example can not restore any files. I get an error message that the backup file was changed after the backup, because of the new file date. Does anyone knows about this problem and a solution ? Thanks, Andreas |

Look for another product. Or remove HD and install it on PC with Windows OS and a network card. |
