creative 5900 ultra windows only see 128 mb
got my self a present a creative 5900 ultra. which should be a nice upgrade
from a ti4200 and then the problems started: i uninstalled the ti4200 and driver, and put in the 5900U into the system..and installed the latest driver of that time the 44.03 then dxdiags only found 128 mb while the geforce tab in the display setting showed 256 mb, gunmetal ran at 1024x768 32 bit 4xAA at around 7-9 fps way to low. i reinstalled w2k pro, and dxdiags(9b) finally found 256 mb and gunmetal ran just fine with 29 fps at the same settings as above. now 20 reboots later the system again only finds 128 mb and gunmetal is back to 9 fps, i dont get it, i havent changed anything during those 20 reboots (about 14 days of use) i tried reinstalling driver, removing card, inserting it agin...use detonator r.i.p. loaded 45.23 drivers...no luck only 9 fps what can i do to make the system recognize the videocard correctly, or rather recognise all 256 mb?(i really dont wanna reinstall again after only 14 days) my system is as follows: asus p4c800 2.8 ghz 800 fsb 1gb hyperx 3500 cl2 ram 4xwesterndigital 120gb disks on promise sx4000 raid controller raid 0 audigy2 antec truepower 550 asetec waterchill cools the whole thing (vga, nb, cpu) and temps dont over 40 C under load (vga/cpu) w2k is totally up to date no missing updates (including directx) |

OK, stupid question time.
A true 5900 Ultra will have a 4-pin molex connector on the rear edge of the video card. you MUST connect a power cable from the PS to this connector in order to use it's full capabilities. If you don't plug a power cable into it, it will run as reduced horsepower. But it should also display an error message telling you to plus a power cable in. can you tell if the video card fan is working? It may also be a bad video card. the power cable is plugged into the card, as i mentioned the card has been
running just fine, until yesterday. on boot it always shows 256 mb, and the geforce tab allways shows 256 mb only dxdiags and the adaptertab in display properties reveal that there is something wrong. the card is watercooled...and i have removed the fan as it made alot of noise, can it be that the card needs this fan to run properly ? then i need to figure out how to make a fan emulator as i dont want the noise it is creating.
