Default Speaker problem

A friend has an HP desktop system that had a pair of cheap speakers that
stopped working. I checked all of the settings and could find nothing wrong.
She had a headphone set so I plugged that into the same receptacle and the
headphones worked fine. I suggested she buy another cheap set of speakers.
She was not concerned with quality of her onboard sound. She now says the
new speakers she bought do not work. I have not yet looked at the new
speakers or at the way she hooked them up. Why would headphones work, but
not speakers plugged into the same receptacle?

She probably needs `powered speakers`.

Probably need amplified speakers.

She told me the speakers worked before. They were not powered. I will ask
her if she is absolutely sure about that.

Thank you for your reply. I have a feeling you are correct.

I suspect you are correct. She told me the speakers worked before, but I
will question her again. Thank you for your reply.

Make sure the new speakers are going in the speaker outlet, and not the
mic input or line-out.
