Default compaq notebook presario 700

Please help a newbie
...I have a CP 700 which had Widows XP.. ..hard drive went bad a month after
warranty expired.. bought a hitachi HD and installed it.. it checks as good
via scandisk and it partitions and formats ok with downloaded boot disks
from web.

The problem is that the 3 Quick Restore disks don't seem to load to the
HD...they go through the process but nothing writes to the HD..and nothing
happens on reboot after QR install
I saw on the net that a BOMID # may have to be added but I don't know the #
for the Presario 700 and would still have a problem writing it to the HD
since instructions are limitede to a boot disk...
Any hel would be appreciated..
