Default Question about CD-R preegrove woobled information

Hello

Being clear that a CD-R has a pregroove spiral to control the optical
pickup while burning I would like to know more in detail how the pickup
knows where it is positioned at some moment on a blanck CD-R.

For example how does the pickup know that it is located at track number
8467?

a) Is it taking information from the elapsed time?
b) Does location calculation has to do with the spiral lenght?
c) Preegrove woobled ticks are recorded some where after processing FM
signal?

Where could I find more information on these matter (white papers,
link, etc)?

Thank you very much and best Regards
Me
