Default I'm having trouble with my DVD burners

I have 2 DVD burners which I have installed in my new computer. I removed
them from my old computer and installed them on the Secondary IDE channel of
my new computer. They are an LG and a Lite-On, both set for CS (cable
select), just as they were in the old computer. I removed the single drive
that came with the new computer and put it in the old computer.

The problem is slow ripping. In the old computer, both drives ripped at
speeds of around 30x to 40x using any of a number of ripping programs. On
the new computer, which should be faster if anything, they rip at about 10x.

I looked in the Device Manager to make sure DMA was enabled and it said,
"DMA if available". Below that I expected to see something like DMA 2
enabled, or perhaps PIO. Instead, both said "Not Applicable". That one's
got me stumped. I know what to do if there is a sudden sluggishness; I
uninstall the drive and let the computer reinstall it, which brings it back
to DMA. I've had to do this several times, and it was always successful.
But Not Applicable I don't understand.

What can I do to get these drives up to speed in my new computer?

Thanks muchly,

Norm Strong
