Default HP and Win10 update

A friend of my recently purchased an HP laptop and with the latest round
of updates, the machine pretty much ground to a halt.

HP was unable to resolve the issue but since the machine was still
pretty new he returned it for a refund.

He sent me a list of SKU's with known issues and except one model of
Dell all were HP.

I have no more info...anyone here know more?
