Default Learning about DLT Drives

I want to learn about DLT internals. I have some DLT7000s (broken) floating
about and I really like this mechanical stuff :-) I've replaced the Leader
tape on one, but it doesn't keep the tape tensioned properly so it ends up
slipping off the rollers and becoming kind of chewed.

Where can I learn more about these? I've oiled the motors with PTFE based
lubricant, and they seem to be performing properly. The DLT7000 Integration
guide talks about altering something to correct backlash on the take-up
reel, but I can't see anything adjustable.

The drive also seems to get rather warm too.. is this normal?

Oh how I'd love to work for Sprague Magnetics in the Netherlands if I didn't
have my little business!

cheers,
Carl
