It's already being done to some extent with Windows XP.

Some of the information collected by Microsoft during the OS validation
process includes:

... Computer manufacturer.
... Computer model.
... BIOS manufacturer.
... BIOS version.
... BIOS issue Date.
... SMBIOS version and Date.
... The Time Zone you live in.
... The State/Province you live in.
... Other applications on your computer.
... What Browser you're using as default.
... Whether or not you use Proxy settings.

If I did not validate the product, it would still function. So, *why*
would Microsoft require the above information and why *should* they be
permitted to take it without the express permission of the *owner* of the
computer?

what are you hiding? my opinion it has nothing to do with MS.

Whats with you? Everytime you have a conspiracy theroy you post it?
Do you use grocery discount cards? Does your license have your correct address? Do you have a SS
number? Do you pay taxes? Send in registration cards for new products? Do you subscribe to any
magazines? Do you have a mortgage? Do you do anything other than sit in a corner and worry about who
knows what time zone your in?

Hmmm, interesting response. Seems to me the person was merely answering
a concern expressed in the first line of a post by OSbandito.
Your response was indeed quite out of line.
That's "my opinion".

No, it's not acceptable at all. Then again, why respond to someone who
reacts in that manner. I wouldn't. It just accelerates the stirring of
the pot.

GMAB Its all a bunch of bull****.

Well chappy, it's 2006 and just about everyone is loaded down with a
(un)healthy dose of paranoia. Probably for some very good reasons in some
cases.

You guys should go back to DOS. Dos? whats
that? isn't that the program that pops up in windows?

And if this person is a younger individual, as you believe,
what would or should he/she know about DOS. To these folks it is indeed
the program that pops up in Windows even though what pops up in XP isn't
DOS at all. Just some software emulation that tries to make believers out
of people. :-)

My apologies, didn't mean to get your panties in a twist.

Have a good day.

My sincerest apologies for sending your sensibilities into a tizzy.

I wouldn't dare say what your reaction to such a simple thing makes you
look like.
Let's save that for another day.......... :-)
