Default Which RAM should I buy?

I am looking to get another 512 MB RAM Chip to add to my Compaq 6470nx
(2.6 ghz, winXP home). I can get the chip for $120 or less through
vendors like Best Buy, CDW, or CompUSA but the HPshopping.com website
sells the chip for $160. The HP site says their RAM comes with
specific instructions for the Compaq computer and that it is
"especially designed for Compaq Presario." Isn't all RAM created
equal? Will there be a difference in performace between the official
Compaq RAM and store bought RAM? I pasted the link to the
HPshopping.com RAM selection below.
Thanks for any help.

It's shouldn't mater where you buy the RAM from so long as the stick(s) are
compatable with your computer. All RAM are made to common standards, thus
are interchangable from computer to comptuer regarless of where you buy the
RAM.

As for installation, I think most, if not all RAM comes with installation
instructions.

If it helps, www.crucial.com has a list of compatible RAM with the major
vendors. I added a 256mg Crucial RAM stick to my Compaq notebook, thing
works fine.

There's nothing wrong with Crucial. I just started dealing with these guys:
Oempcpworld. They beat the price I was looking at and it got delivered in 2 days,
first class mail (free shipping).

I am going back to them for some other parts.

I didn't say anything about Crucial being wrong. If you read my first post,
and i quote:

"If it helps, www.crucial.com has a list of compatible RAM with the major

If you noticed, the last sentence indicates that I actually used Crucial
RAM, and that it works fine. Funther more, I did state that the Crucial RAM
does work with Compaq computers, seeing how I had that experience first
hand.

No one is disagreeing with you. I know about Crucial and was just confirming
that there is nothing wrong with them. It's a figure of speech, not a condemnation.
I was just offering another possibility which works for me. Sorry for the confusion.

No harm done. I may have been a bit harsh with my reply. In the confusion, I
thought that your post directly below mine was a comment upon me.
