Ghost 9 and Nero 5.10
With Ghost 9 installed [and working fine], Nero returns read error before
recognizing media and won't burn DVDs. Restoring to a point before Ghost, all is fine. Symantec tech support is bad so I ask the knowledgeable members of this group. Ghost 9 installs GEARAspii. Is that a source iof this? Is there any way to not allow Ghost to run automatically? [Not just disabling the tray icon.] I only use Ghost every 6 months. Don't need it 24/7. Selectively starting Ghost would be OK but I'm not sure how to fully accomplish this. Thank you for any comments. -- Remove -NOSPAM- to contact me. |

Now that you also mentioned, it must have some effect on Nero. Is there any way to not allow Ghost to run automatically? [Not just disabling the tray icon.] I only use Ghost every 6 months. Tried that with no luck. Removing the Ghost entry from startup doesn't
really disable Ghost, only removes a tray icon. -- Remove -NOSPAM- to contact me. |

All these years I've been so happy with PowerQuest DriveImage. Now that Symantec has gobbled them up, I guess I'm going to be stuck with all that Symancrap in the future unless I can find another imaging software to which to switch. You can bet I'll look really hard. Haven't seen Symantec buy anything that they didn't destroy over time. //rus// |

Ghost 9 includes the DOS version of Ghost. Create the DOS boot discs (either
CD or Floppy) which will allow you to run Ghost outside Windows, which is in any case the safest way to use it, and when you are satisfied that it works from that disc, uninstall Ghost 9 completely. -- Graham Mayor John Keiser wrote: Tried that with no luck. A good tip, just some clarification needed. Ghost 9 does not include a tool to create the DOS boot disks. When purchasing Ghost 9 you also get Ghost 2003 ("Ghost 8"). Install this instead and you will find you have all you need for creating DOS boot disks. Ed |

What I use is Image for Windows - $27 shareware from www.bootitng.com The original BootIT NG (BING) as well as being a boot manager does all the partition work you might need and also generates/restores compatible images (but runs stand alone whereas Image will make images under Windows). Images can be to file sets in a different drive, including external ones, or direct to CD or DVD sets (which are bootable for a restore) -- Alex Nichol Bournemouth, U.K. |
