Bad situation caused by Microsoft Windows 7 installer:

Harddisk 1:

+++++++++ Windows 7 Boot Files ++++++++++++++++
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Harddisk 2:
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
+++++++++ Windows 7 Operating System files +++++
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Result:

When harddisk 1 is removed, Windows 7 cannot boot: missing boot files.

After applieing the fix it will be like this:

Harddisk 1:
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
+++++++++ Windows XP Operating System files +++++
+++++++++ Windows XP Boot Files +++++++++++++++
+++++++++ Windows 7 Boot Files ++++++++++++++++
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Harddisk 2:
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
+++++++++ Windows 7 Operating System files +++++
+++++++++ Windows 7 Boot Files ++++++++++++++++
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

^ New boot files added to harddisk 2, so harddisk 1 is no longer needed
to
boot Windows 7.

Bye,
Skybuck.

Also there might be more to the story than just Windows.

The new harddisk has seemed to fail as well and has bad sectors which
resulted into an interesting red screen which I have not seen before.

It's the grub4dos screen.

Grub4Dos is apperently a boot manager. It's installed by the "crack"
for windows 7, it apperently installs some "slic" for activation.

Are you saying that you are running a Pirate version of Windows 7?
If so, you certainly deserve all the troubles that you are having!

Considering that Styfart commits "cybercrime against nature" every time
he turns on his pooter...

I vaguely remember the dip changing providers because of "connection
issues". I wonder if those providers spotted botnet or rootkit traffic
and booted him because he couldn't or wouldn't disinfect his machine and
he 'forgot' to tell us that.

I know it sounds perverse, but I'd actually LIKE to get hands-on his
computer (but in full hazmat gear) just to see what he's screwed up.

It might just be the ultimate source material on a "how NOT to" guide
for brewing your own computer.

I think all of us can admit to screwing things up at times, and we all
have had even the best parts fail, but StyFart has managed to combine 30
years worth of 10 people's "failquota" into ~ 5 years of his existence.

After everything, he actually caused me to chuckle when I saw that.

He indeed deserves everything he gets... or does not get.

He probably does. Both with and without intent.

I vaguely remember the dip changing providers because of "connection
issues". I wonder if those providers spotted botnet or rootkit traffic
and booted him because he couldn't or wouldn't disinfect his machine and

Yeah... I think he does things to his box, via both hardware and
software screw-ups.

I know it sounds perverse, but I'd actually LIKE to get hands-on his
computer (but in full hazmat gear) just to see what he's screwed up.

Actually, a forensic exam of his box(es) and his behavior would likely
make a pretty good book for the computer science world.

It might just be the ultimate source material on a "how NOT to" guide
for brewing your own computer.

We'll eventually educate any dopes who would follow someone like him.
We did get Gaddafi, after all. I saw folks bearing US flags in an
Islamic nation. It is indeed a weird time in the history of man.

I think all of us can admit to screwing things up at times, and we all
have had even the best parts fail, but StyFart has managed to combine 30
years worth of 10 people's "failquota" into ~ 5 years of his existence.

And he still refuses to believe any of us about ESD hazards, and he
want to blame failures on some nebulous electrical anomaly.

+1

He should just get a box (a NEW BOX)(jeez they are cheap now!). And
leave it ALONE.

Do NOT open it up. Do NOT do ANYTHING other than use it for computing.

Take note of how long it goes without failing. THEN, he should open it
up and start futzing around the way he has so many times, and see how
quickly the damned thing fails. MAYBE then he'll wake up.

Pirate or not pirate has nothing to do with it.

Bad sectors happen, fact of life ! =D

It probably happened when I closed the door of the antec 1200 case as the
computer was running.

That reminds me I still have to add that as likely cause in the other thread
!

The door needs a bit of jamming.

Bye,
Skybuck.
