Default HP 820CXi

There is an excess ink reservoir, called a "spittoon", at the right end of
the
print head carriage. A column of (black) ink builds up there over time until
it is too high for the printhead to clear when parked.
That could be the reason for your problem
Go to the HP site and search for "spittoon" for instructions on cleanibg
it out (a messy process).

I have an old HP 820 CXi, which I have replaced. The problem I was
getting was heavy ink release from the printer onto the paper. Printing
would be fine with a new cart, but after a week or, there would be a heavy
ink release around the heads, leading to lots of messy blots on the paper.
I resorted to taking the cart out, cleaning the heads up and re-inserting,
but the problem kept coming back. I tried new carts, but the problem kept
reappearing. In the end I bought a new printer.

Anyone any clues what the problem might be? Running under Win 98SE.

Worked a treat! Sure is messy and the gunk that was in the spittoon was
like axle grease. Downloaded new drivers and after a few cleaning cycles,
I have now a working back up printer.

Many thanks
