Presario 7400
I was given a dead Presario 7478 (no disks) that I revived with an eBay
motherboard. It boots to a W-98 screen, tells me the display driver is wrong (the display is readable, but out of proportion), and will not recognize the CD and CDRW drives. The lights light up on the drives, so I have reason to think they are alive, but the machine does not see them. It responds to the mouse and keyboard, and the floppy drive works. Looking at the autoexec.bat and config.sys files, they are there, but have no content -- reading "0" as to size. I've removed the CD driver from the device manager, but then doing the "add hardware" procedure does not cure the problem. I have the uipdated display drivers from the Compaq site, but without the CD working, I can't load them. I'm stalemated. Does anyone have an idea of where I can go with this? How about some suggestions as to what should be in the autoexec and config files to load the correct drivers? Thanks in advance for any help. Rich Phillips |
