mkraid /dev/md0 results in /dev/md0: Invalid argument - Linux
Attempting to construct a RAID-1 using a Promise FastTrack TX2 100
controller and 2 x 60gig IDE drives. I am using the 2.4.24 kernel drivers for the fasttrack controller. Using Raidtools version 0.90.0 I have added this entry to lilo to properly initialize the drives: append="mem=1024M ide2=0xc000,0xc402,10 ide3=0xc800,0xcc02,10" dmesg shows this for the drives and controller: Kernel command line: BOOT_IMAGE=Slackware ro root=302 mem=1024M ide2=0xc000,0xc402,10 ide3=0xc800,0xcc02,10 ide_setup: ide2=0xc0 .... hde: WDC WD600BB-00CAA1, ATA DISK drive hdg: WDC WD600BB-00CAA0, ATA DISK drive .... hde: attached ide-disk driver. hde: host protected area = 1 hde: 117231408 sectors (60022 MB) w/2048KiB Cache, CHS=116301/16/63 hdg: attached ide-disk driver. hdg: host protected area = 1 hdg: 117231408 sectors (60022 MB) w/2048KiB Cache, CHS=116301/16/63 .... Drive 0 is 57241 Mb (33 / 0) Drive 1 is 57241 Mb (34 / 0) Raid1 array consists of 2 drives. Promise Fasttrak(tm) Softwareraid driver for linux version 0.03beta .... My /etc/raidtab is as follows: raiddev /dev/md0 raid-level 1 nr-raid-disks 2 nr-spare-disks 0 persistent-superblock 1 chunk-size 4 device /dev/hde raid-disk 0 device /dev/hdg raid-disk 1 However, when I attempt to create the RAID-1 device I get this error: /dev/md0: Invalid argument The weird thing is this. Just out of curiosity I changed my raidtab file to RAID-0 and tried to create the array. Everything worked perfectly still using /dev/md0. The onboard bios of the Promise card has the array created as RAID-1 which makes all this even more puzzeling. Any and all help would be appreciated. thanks, itallushrt-AT-charter-DOT-net |
