I think somebody was pulling your leg, why do you need one?

It doesn't occur to Nik that a SAN consultant might want to go in the
field with his laptop and hook up to a SAN?!!!

I have a Dell D800 notebook, and I bought their docking station (not
port replicator, but docking station), which has room for a PCI slot,
which I have a QLA2340 in. When I am out on the road and I know I'll
need to attach to a FC system, I take the docking station with me.
I've had this combo for almost 6 months, and I am quite happy.

If you want a sub-$1000 solution, then get an old Latitude model, and
the single-PCI slot CDock-I. You can easily pick them both up on ebay
for very little money, and they work fine as well. I used this combo
for three years until I saw the 1920-pixel-width of the D800 and had
to have it.

David
