Cooling seems to be adequate, CPU is 45C under prime95 load and system temp
is 40c with ambient temp of 28-30C. Using an infared temperature scanner the
s. bridge chip reads 33c after several hours of operation. Also I have the v
core set to 1.7v. as far as I can tell theres no voltage setting for the
chipset itself but there is for mem, and agp which are all at their default.
I'm not familiar with the Via kt600 myself, but having really good luck with
my previous system which was a kt266a I thought it may be a good choice. I
would prefer an nforce board but I use an ati video card (gigabyte 9600pro)
atm that was a gift and altho there are no reports of compatibility issues
with ati+nforce I would rather use an nvidia card with an nvidia system
(always been partial to components that match for some reason). As soon as
this download i am working on is done, I will clock the cpu back to spec and
look into the bios a bit more closely to determine irq settings etc (I think
they are all at auto atm). thanx a ton for all your info. I will experament
with the APIC/ACPI settings as well and re post with my results. thanx again

Well good luck and do keep us posted.

Just be careful with the ACPI / APIC settings and, as I posted, use Ghost or
something similar to back up your system if you don't want the trouble of
formatting and installing everything again if things do go wrong.
