Default Dell Inspiron 8500 - Noise Levels

Just bought an Inspiron 8500 and noticed that the fan noise is very
loud. It goes on and off once in a while (when it's off, the noise
level emanating from the notebook is very quiet). I noticed that most
other notebooks are pretty quiet but mine seems pretty loud.

Then I read in the manual where it says fan noise is to be expected.
Anyone else experience the same thing?

Gotta be a bad fan. I have an I8500 and unless I'm in a completely silent
room I can't even hear the fan.

The cpu fan is designed to raise it's RPM speed when the cpu temp rises. It
should never be totally off but just lowers to a slower quieter speed. CPU
temp rises based on cpu usage....so the fan will kick into high speed when
you push your cpu harder.

I typically use it for a few hours each day but I'm not sure if I push
the cpu hard. I normally use it for word processing, internet
surfing, and general office use, with the occasional wireless.

Yet it seems to come on often (i.e. loud noise) and the manual seems
to imply that this is normal. Any other suggestions?

Thanks for your response.
