Ati and nVidia high-end price-war has started.....................

I notice that the price of the nVidia FX5900 128Meg has dropped
to $249 on-line today ( www.gameve.com - eVGA FX5900 ) having
dropped to $279 a few days ago.

The Ati fan-folk will say that this is because of the 9800 "superior
performance" with magnifying glass in hand......... . However,
I believe that this is part of an overall nVidia plan, since the other

members of the FX family are also dropping in price............
Goliath is finally flexing muscle.............

The full-production piece-part price of the NV35 to the board
manufacturers can be set much lower by nVidia (and with good
profit margin) than the R350 can be set by Ati, since the
transistor-count is similar but the die is far smaller (0.13u vs
0.15u) and the 0.13u process is now finally sufficiently
"mature" for industry-standard yields.

Been readin alot of reviews on both the 9800pro and the 5900 line.The 5900(non
pro) is about equal to the 9800 pro except at very high res(1600x1200)+.
I think the reasons for the price drop are the that the next big thing is
coming out and the big shopping season is coming. Dawg

More than twice. Memory bandwidth is ~ 26Gbytes/sec compared to about
5 Gbytes/sec. May now be limited by your processor ?

Don't feel bad. The day after mine shipped this week, the price
dropped from $279 to $249..............grrr....................... :-(


Still, almost like with cars --- the $$ value of PC components drops
at least 30% per year.......... Goes with the territory.

Have patience..........it probably does not sell in the volume that
the eVGA version is sold and the suppliers need to exhaust old
inventory, otherwise they sell at a loss.

I am planning to upgrade my GeForce4 Ti4200 (too slow for my newer
games) on my Athlon 2200+ system. It will probably be after September
2003. So, maybe the prices will fall even more? What do you think?


Prices will fall further.

Also, Ati is supposed to be releasing R400-based boards by then, but
don't hold your breath.
