To all,
What is the best (fastest) AGP video board (AGP 8X) out there.
I have an ATI Radeon 9800 and am considering an upgrade.
Thanks in advance.

Has detailed review of some..
http://tomshardware.co.uk/site/vgacharts/index.html index to more here.

Beware of your Power Supply ...the latest AGP cards r very power hungry.
The best value v performance (& not to power hungry) is probably
Geforce 7600 GT (NOT slower GS).
There quite a lot of 2nd hand AGP graphics cards around at good prices ..
Need to remember it should have shader 3...which e.g.. Radeon X850
hasn't.

X1950 Pro AGP is one option.

7800GS AGP is another.

BigJim, Trimble & Paul.
Thanks,
I will look into these and also will check my power supply.
I didn't see the 9800 listed on Tom's hardware comparison, I guess it must
be that slow compared to the newer, faster cards.
Thanks again...

You can see the 9800 here
http://www.tomshardware.com/2004/10/...ml#3dmark_2003
a full list of charts is here

I think the nVidia 7800 is the fastest AGP one in the market.

The Radeon 9800 is a fine gfx chip (card) and if it is still working,
one might take into consideration the forthcoming DirectX 10 cards;
see, e. g., http://www.guru3d.com/news.php?cat=8&perpage=15#4991.

Paul,
I am confused now that I look at this.
How many people make this card? (x1950 pro)? I saw the HIS one and I saw one
from Saphire
(http://ati.pricegrabber.com/search_t...terid=31958690)

Do different companies make video cards using the ATI chipset?

My apologies if this is a stupid question. My curiosity is peaked now.
Both of these look fine although the one you indicated has a higher core
closk speed.
Thanks,
S

Yes both companies(and others) make variants of the x1950pro. Be careful of
the Sapphire card, check the sapphire forums, that card looks like an
absolute dog due to poor cooling.

Paul,
Went with the HIS x1950 as posted above.
Had to upgrade power supply but it is a sweet card.
Thanks for the info.
Happy Gaming!!!
