I just switched from a SCSI Yamaha CDR burner to a brand new IDE Plextor
PX-708a DVD Burner, but something isn't right cause when I try to burn a DVD
my CPU usage jumps to 100% and it goes into Burn Protection mode every few

Pentium III 1000Mhz
256MB Ram
20GB HD

Could this problem be caused by some sort of software issue? Would it be
worth while to try to format my HD and start with a fresh install of Windows
2000? Or is it possible it's a hardware issue. Currently the DVD burner is
configured as a slave attached to the secondary IDE port. The master on
that port is my existing CD reader. It was easiest to set things up like
this due to the cabling issue since I believe that the master has to be on
the end of those 80 conductor cables.

You can try unplugging the reader (and setting the burner as IDE master), and make sure
you've enabled DMA for the drive. I think I read somewhere that the controller of the
IDE bus may slow down to the speed of the slowest device for some people.
