Win2000 installs all optical drives in PIO mode by default, just go and turn
on DMA and you're set.

I just switched from a SCSI Yamaha CDR burner to a brand new IDE Plextor
PX-708a DVD Burner, but something isn't right cause when I try to burn a

DVD
my CPU usage jumps to 100% and it goes into Burn Protection mode every few
seconds cause the buffer runs out of data. The same thing happens if I

burn
a CD at any decent speed (ie: 16x or better).

My machine specs a
Pentium III 1000Mhz
256MB Ram
20GB HD

Could this problem be caused by some sort of software issue? Would it be
worth while to try to format my HD and start with a fresh install of

Windows
2000? Or is it possible it's a hardware issue. Currently the DVD burner

is
configured as a slave attached to the secondary IDE port. The master on
that port is my existing CD reader. It was easiest to set things up like
this due to the cabling issue since I believe that the master has to be on
the end of those 80 conductor cables.

Thank you for any suggestions,
Harry
