WGA can easily be disabled using Sysinternals free program Autoruns. Download
it from he

Run the program, click the Winlogon tab, and under
"HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify"
uncheck wganotify.dll.

If WGA is disabled though, can one still download updates if the
updates are only available for validated copies of XP?
