What game? Are you running the latest drivers from nvidea, not Compaq?
That's the first thing I would try.

***** using teh latest ones fropm nvidia.

Also make sure you meet the recommended
hardware requirements for the game.

***** Yup. Here's they a
486 processor
8MB of RAM
Microsoft XP
100 percen Windows XP compatible machine
14 mgs harddrive space
Quad sped CD ROM
DirectX 8

Did get this to run (sort of -graphics looked like the inside of the
Matrix:-0) in Safe Mode, and it froze up just like in regular mode.

Depending on the game, you may be
running out of video memory which means the system memory has to take up
the
slack and runs much slower. You may want to upgrade your old video card.
Maximum 4X AGP on your machine I believe.

****** While it is a crappy video card, it should be able to handle
the above. And the point is, it did. When I first got this machine, it
ran video games fine. It hasn't had a game on it in quite a while.
When I install the old games that ran fine the machine slows and then
freezes with taskager showing horrendous usage percentages for the
game, and sometimes even for task manager.

Yes nothing has changed with the system, and every test I've run says
there is no problem ...

Wierd.
