You got it! You can use any ATX supply. The independant "fixer" doesn't know
very much about current machinery, now does he?

Earlier Presarios had proprietary power supplies. Most since 2000 or so

have
standard ATX supplies.

thanks for feedback. talked to independent pc fixer down the street.
asked him about upgrade to 300 watt ps (if that is the problem) and he
said that compaq needed proprietary ps. is this true? if so, does
compaq make a 300 W supply?

thanks again

RAM? If so, a dead power supply or a short on the motherboard are

the
most
likely causes. It's a standard ATX power supply and would be a good
opportunity to upgrade to a 300-watt supply from your current 200.

negative. only action is blinking red LED when unit is plugged in.
Pushing power-on button results in absolutely no action in unit.

any way you know of to confirm that power supply is the problem? no
fan, drives move, no cd or dvd bay opens. How hard is it to replace
power supply?

thanks

all attempts to turn on my 2 1/2 year old Pressario 6010US

result

only

in blinking red led. Replaced lithium ion battery on
motherboard (is this the cmos battery?) but still no start. tried
different outlets, etc. but no go. problem occurred out of the

blue.
any suggestions?
