Any ideas on why no thermal compound left ?, it was about
3 or 4 months since i applied it.

I've never seen thermal grease dry up and completely disappear; it
always leaves behind residue from the powder in it. I've also had
silicone-based thermal grease that was still OK over 20 years after
application (I've never used the non-silicone type, which is ester
oil). Were you sold counterfeit thermal grease made with water
instead of oil?
