Default Be careful of Windows update

Checking for AV updates daily is really overkill. :-) I update my
Avira

Antivir definitions once a month and I download all kinds of cracks and
no-CD patches without infection.

You're lucky, perhaps I was just using a lame antivirus - Onecare, but
somehow my machine ended up infested with the Tenga.a virus. I'm running
Kaspersky on W7 64bit, ,and there are no issues with it. It has a gaming
mode, that turns off pop ups etc which is pretty neat, I think. I haven't
reinstalled everything yet, as I'll wait for my W7 to arrive in a couple of
weeks time.
