Though, just having lots of files on your hard disk by itself is not
going to cause your system to slow down, however having lots of files
on your hard disk is somewhat correlated to having lots of programs
running and being started on your computer.

No it isnt. They can be media files which have nothing to do with
having lots of programs running and being started on the computer.
