Is there anything close to a universal media formulation that should
play
on
any drive?
Yes, it's called CDR, RW discs are well known for these problems.
What about the best formulation - dye type? In the past I have found Taiyo
Yuden Cyanine (Type 1) to be the most compatible for CD-Rs, agree? And what
about DVD-Rs? Is there a similar dye type with the best drive
compatibility?
BTW, if you are using Memorex 24x RW media, that's the trouble. Made by
Infodisc,
they are some of the worst media ever made.
I'm using Verbatim DataLife Plus - I never trusted Memorex for media.
