Question is if you pay the extra for a machine with no dead pixels
what happens to the machines with dead pixels?
Where did that come from? The OP said he paid for a dead pixel check,
not a 100% assurance that his screen did not have any.
The check could just check that the screen did not fall outside the
dead pixel standards.

You're really clutching at straws here mate.
Everyone here can read - you asked "Don't know exactly what the
'dead-pixel' test was about though."
It has been explained to you.
If a tft screen falls outwith the standards, it can be returned because
it fails to meet its specification. No problem.
The issue here is that to a lot of users, even tft's that fall within
the manufacturer spec are unacceptable i.e. with maybe one or 2 'dead
pixels'. Therefore, the *only* check *anyone* might *possibly* pay for
is a 100% pixel perfect one.
So, herbert, there is no other check.
Best keep yer gob shut and appear ignorant rather than open it and
remove all doubt.
