Default no free memory....apparantly

(Edward) wrote in message om...
I just installed another 256mb of RAM into my computer, so now i have
a total of 275mb. Before i did this, the computer seemed to work all
fine, just a bit sluggish, now afterwards, it will load most programs,
but on startup some wil not load as there is no free memory, and i
cannot access any of the system tools (e.g. command prompt or
scandisk) as it continues to say i have no available free memory. This
is odd, as i am still able to load large programs such as games. Any
ideas on whys this has happened??

Thanks

If you're running an pretty old system, you may have exceeded the
motherboards maximum RAM capacity.

The new RAM block may simply not get along with the existing RAM. I
have had that happen. If you can get a hold of another block of RAM
and test if things are happy with it, then you can know if it's the
RAM itself that's causing the issue. Another thing you can try is to
start it up with just the new block and see if the computer has a beef
with it.

I've also had an occurance where, while installing new RAM, a bumped
loose one of the other blocks. Check and make sure everythings snug.
