Does anyone know of a free program that can check for bad sectors in
Macs (e.g., MacBook Pro from early 2008 [4,1]) without losing datas?

none that can do so reliably, on any platform.

based on you other posts, that drive has issues. toss it and install an
ssd. it'll breathe a little life in that aging macbook.

Yeah.

Why are you so reluctant to do the right thing here? You know the drive is
about to fail, yet you seem to be willing to do anything BUT replace it -
even though it's the simplest and least risky thing you can do. Very
strange!
