I call it what it is. Backup Exec and other programs give you a
choice between APPEND or OVERWRITE. It was an APPEND.

No. You and Backup Exec are both wrong. If Backup Exec was changing
a header at the beginning of the tape, that is not appending.

If you don't like it, complain to them.

Again no. You're the one using their stupid software, you can
complain to them. I don't care what Backup Exec does. I don't use it.
