RAM disks?
What happened to the software Ram disk??? are they still available???

What's around in RAM disks these days? I'm imagining something in a
3.5" or CD-ROM form factor, ATA or SCSI interface, capacity in the
1GB-4GB range, with built in battery power and magnetic backup. The
idea is to just swap it in place of a hard drive in a database server.
Do those things really speed up database traffic? How much do they
cost? The application is to speed up an overloaded web site with
minimal effort (of course a better fix would be rework the software,
but that's not always feasible).
