Some "smart" motherboards cut the end of HDD and keep their backup BIOS
settings and copy of MBR.
Also NHPA command from MHDD program should uncut it.

Any other way to recover a HDD which is freezing the system? Spinrite says it will take 584 hours!

no need to install anything, just use Live CD, for example knoppix and mount
the HDD to OS

IDE hard drive -- changing the card?

I've got a Seagate ST3300831A (Barracuda 7200.8 300 GB).

This drive belongs to TONKA family

The electronic card seems busted (there's a component that looks

Your HDD is about to fail because of too many relocated bad sectors. You
can disable SMART so it will not anoy you. You should run selfscan on HDD or
scan surfaces and put defects to P-list to...
