Any way to connect 10-yr old ATA drive (via USB caddy?) to Win7 PC?

Unfortunately, the mobo on the PC has the new-type IDE leads with the
little plugs, and there isn't a spare DC supply lead in there either.

The "little plugs" you're talking about are SATA data...

I would advise the guy to remove the hard disk
and replace it with a new hard disk drive, setting
the original drive aside in a safe place.

There's no sense in wiping out a correctly
set up boot...

file to it, guess what happens to the first 3G of the file?

Overwritten by the 5th, 6th and 7th Gig of the file...

use commutator circuitry because I have
one that does work as a generator.

I'm not sure if it's especially OLD but
it seems to have an old school DC...
