Get back Partition Magic screwed partition - with findpart?
For the last two weeks or so Windows is yelling at me disk space is low. To get rid of the message and to be sure I wouldn't receive it for a while I wanted to increase the windows partition and reduce another one. Windows is the C partition, the other one a logical partition on an extended partition, volume letter D. (Volume E is another logical partition on the extended partition) Using Partition magic to do the job, something went wrong. Partition Magic gave an interrupting error message and made partition D a PQRP partition. I found out this is a Partition Magic Recoverable Partition. According to messages on the Powerquest (nowadays Symantec) forum the partition would be readable again after changing the partition type back with PTedit, from 3C (PQRP) to 07 (NTFS) Strange thing though: though nothing is wrong with partition E, it does have partition type 05 instead of 07. Anyway. I did just that, but unfortunately I still cannot read the contents. I tried the 'Getmydataback' software, by Runtime, and could find all the data. Unfortunately, some estimated 30% - 40% of the files cannot be read. Either something is wrong with the file header, or the file has been altered in a strange way. (jpeg images are partly grey, text files contain garbage, etc). Findpart told me this: __________________________________________________ Findpart, version 4.45 - for Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP. I do wonder however, would it be possible to get my data back or copy it to another harddrive? What do I have to do to make the partition readable and get all of my files back? I have aborted each time windows wanted to check the disk, to avoid writing commands to the failing partition. I am stupid not to have backed up all my data, but was sensible enough to backup at least some of it. Losing data would hurt me much nevertheless. Does my story sound familiar? Can anyone help? What can I do? I am pretty desperate, as I have a serious deadline ahead (marriage) and cannot afford much time on the issue. Please help. Brow Nee --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
