IBM HDD 15 or 16 head???
Garage sale computer had hardrive disconnected .. the hard drive is IBM
DPTA, it has jumpers for 15 or 16 head... what would be the standard or prefered head configuration. I have tried to jumpered for 15 and 16 and it shows up on the the screen but when i go to access it i get "device is not functioning". Since i tried both settings would a bad drive be suspected? It spins up and clicks several times on start up... thanks guys don ward -- --- don ward |

I've not come across a drive that clicks on boot/POST unless it has death watch beetle (i.e. it's dying/dead). Does it sound as though the head is hitting the platten (a sort of dull click)? If so, then it's dead, Jim. |
