Repair problem

I replaced a defective motherboard on a Compaq, keeping the same memory &
CPU. When I power up, it won't boot or display any video. Could the CPU be
fried?

Did you get the replacement board from Compaq? Which Compaq PC?

There should be a clear CMOS jumper. Look for a sticker inside your PC case.
Try clearing the CMOS and see if it will then boot. If it won't, either the
board is bad or the processor.
