The $500 US single socket motherboard - but why?

Now comes the ASUS Striker II Extreme Intel Core 2 Quad/Core 2 Extreme/Core
2 Duo/Pentium Socket 775 1600 MHz PC3-14400 (DDR3-1800) ATX Motherboard with
a retail price of $499.99 US (o.k., o.k. there is a $70 US rebate at
zipzoomfly.com) Very likely the new champion of 'Least Bang for the Buck'.
