Why Two Recovery Partitions on This Dell?
This is an Inspiron 15.6" Series 5000, 5559 Laptop.
I purchased it new around July of 2016. It came with Windows 10 Home, probably Version 1511 or 1607 back then. It's currently fully updated, running Version 1709, build 16299.309. My question has to do with the number of Recovery Partitions I see when I look at the DiskManagement window. Here's a picture of what I see. https://postimg.org/image/em45cnd2b/ I am wondering why there are two Healthy (Recovery Partitions). Also, why is one only 855MB, while the other is 11.94GB I suspect that this has something to do with updating from the original OEM install, to the current Version 1709. Here's a copy of the OEM install log that I found on the system, it it sheds any light on this: ---------------------------------------------------- 2016-03-23 15:51:07 INFO: Start factory imaging version: 2.0.0.1 2016-03-23 15:51:07 INFO: Operating system is Windows 10. 2016-03-23 15:51:07 INFO: System is in UEFI mode. 2016-03-23 15:51:07 INFO: System disk is: 0 2016-03-23 15:51:07 INFO: OS partition drive letter is: C:\ 2016-03-23 15:51:07 INFO: OS partition index is: 3 2016-03-23 15:51:07 INFO: The system disk size is: 931 GB 2016-03-23 15:51:07 INFO: ESP partition drive letter is: E:\ 2016-03-23 15:51:07 INFO: ESP partition index is: 1 2016-03-23 15:51:07 INFO: System does not have an Excalibur partition. 2016-03-23 15:51:07 INFO: System does not have a DIAGS partition. 2016-03-23 15:51:07 Start: Dism /Capture-Image /ImageFile:C:\FacImg \install.wim /CaptureDir:C:\ /Name:"Factory image" /ConfigFile:C:\FacImg \wimscript.ini 2016-03-23 16:06:24 Factory image creation code returned is: 0 2016-03-23 16:06:24 INFO: Created the initial factory image successfully. 2016-03-23 16:06:24 INFO: Size of initial factory image in megabytes: 11499 2016-03-23 16:06:26 INFO: Created the ESP Dell image successfully. 2016-03-23 16:06:26 INFO: Size of ESP Dell image in megabytes: 0 2016-03-23 16:06:26 INFO: Total size for all the images for the Image directory is in megabytes: 11529 2016-03-23 16:06:26 INFO: Total space required for the recovery partition is: 450 MB. 2016-03-23 16:06:26 Info: Created the diskpart script file: C:\FacImg \dps.txt 2016-03-23 16:06:33 Info: Recovery and Image partitions created. 2016-03-23 16:06:33 INFO: Created the WinRE directory: M:\recovery \windowsre 2016-03-23 16:06:37 INFO: Removed the recycler directory. 2016-03-23 16:06:38 INFO: Registered the recovery directory with the OS. 2016-03-23 16:06:41 INFO: Created the ESP image successfully. 2016-03-23 16:06:41 INFO: Size of ESP image in megabytes: 12 2016-03-23 16:06:41 Info: Created the Images directory: N:\Image 2016-03-23 16:06:41 Info: Copied the EFI.wim to the Images directory: N: \Image 2016-03-23 16:13:53 INFO: Split the factory image to the image directory. 2016-03-23 16:13:53 Info: Copied the bootmenu.xml to the Images directory: N:\Image 2016-03-23 16:13:53 Info: Copied the Reset Extensibility executable to the Images directory. 2016-03-23 16:13:53 Info: Created the OEM Logs directory. 2016-03-23 16:13:53 INFO: Added the restore tool with the OS WinRE menu. 2016-03-23 16:13:53 INFO: Copied the reset extensibility executable to the OEM directory: C:\Recovery\OEM\DK-EXC.exe 2016-03-23 16:13:53 INFO: Populated the OEM directory because this is Windows 10. 2016-03-23 16:13:53 INFO: Wrote the ResetConfig.xml file. 2016-03-23 16:13:54 INFO: Completed image creation. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- By the way, this Dell machine has C:\Windows, 22.7GB, with 142,065 files and 25,080 folders, which shows created 9/29/17, and C:\Windows.old, 0GB, with 0 files and 541 folders which shows created 11/12/17.
