(Another) HP JetDirect question ...

HP list the 300X as "Win 95- .." but a thorough search of the HP site didn't
locate any software earlier than NT/2000. Is there a hidden repository where
the 9X stuff can be found, or did it all get flushed whenMS dropped 98 support
and HP duly lost interest?

Network printing support is included in NT4 and later, but 9x was
intentionally limited so that business users couldn't get away with a
cheaper "home" operating system.

So HP had the "Install Network Printer Wizard" which supported their
print servers on Win9x. They still have it, but apparently it's been
reworked by comedians, since the only Windows versions it supports...
don't need it.

The file was called ja255en.exe, which is now an empty file on HP's FTP
server:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/networking/software/ja255en.exe

This file may be a slightly earlier version:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/networking/software/ja250en.exe

If you google ja255en.exe you will find a number of copies which seem to be the correct length.

Yes, exactly what I did and found one readily. Thanks to Warren for providing
the filename, the key to finding it.

Certainly seems HP have consigned it to history.

Well, yes, but security-wise that's a very trusting and potentially
catastrophic way to go.

The ACITS LPR Remote Printing will fit the bill:
