Lite On LTR40125S

I have a Lite On LTR40125S which is 48X/40X/12X. I purchased some
Memorex High speed CD-RW disks with recording speeds up to 12X. I am
using Nero 5 as that is what came with the burner.

I am able to erase these disks, but after what appears to have been a
successful; write, it throws the Lite On LTR40125S into a locked up
mode which I cannot do anything in windows until I remove the disk.

I have the latest firmware as I checked and even though the file was
supposed to be newer, it was the same size and date of an older
firmware I installed.

Did I buy the wrong disks for this burner? Any other suggestions
appreciated.

Thanks

(What's the exact logo on the Memorex disc?)
(Considering the age of the burner, it may require cleaning.)

First modify the registry for Nero to show actual burn speed:

1. Start- Run- type Regedit
2. Go to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ahead\Nero - Burning Rom\Recorder"
3. Go to Edit- New - DWORD Value
4. Rename "New Value #1" to "ShowSingleRecorderSpeed"
5. Right-click on it and select "Modify"
6. Now set the value 0 to 1

Reboot after the registry modification.

Next write something and select 12x (or next lower speed) for 'Write
speed'. If the resulting disc locks up, see if you can erase by [Nero,
Recorder, Erase] and select 12x (or next lower) for 'Erase speed'.

Post back how it went.

Here is a link to what I have:

The drive is probably 5 years old, but has had little use. I tried
recording at 12 X speed with the same results. I have no trouble with
Memorex 40X CD-R disks. I added the registry tweak and will check
this later.

It says 8x - 12x write speed. Does Nero list 8x, 10x for 'Write speed'?

Burned at 8x previously?

CD-RW uses different laser, thus success with cd-r does not guarantee
success with cd-rw. On the other hand, the chances of cd-rw laser being
dirty while cd-r laser not dirty is very remote.

Considering all these, inclined to think the Liteon's write strategy is
not compatible with the Memorex cd-rw. (Btw, Memorex cd-rw is generally
known as crap.)

I added the registry tweak and will check
this later.

That was to check if there are abnormal burn speeds. The actual burn
speed should increase, reaching the max speed only at the end.
