cable select and slave?
I am working on a friends older Compaq PC. He has been having some problems
with his burner that he put in himself about 2 years after he got the computer. The CD-ROM drive that came with it was set to "Cable Select," but the CD-RW, that he put in, is set to "slave"....could this be the problem? or is that perfectly fine? |

It depends on which connector the "cable select" drive is on, ideally set them both to cable select and let the computer figure out which is the slave and which is the master. Alternatively, set one to master and connect it ot the last connector on the ide cable, set the other to slave and put it on the connector halfway down the cable. You don`t mention what the problem is with the CD-RW, could be a driver problem. Try downloading the latest drivers and installing them, if cable is not the problem. Pete |
