HP CDRW says Calibration area full
 

I get error message while trying to burn anything with report that the
"Calibration area is full". This is an old HP 7200 that has not seen many
burns or much use. Has anyone had a problem like this and know how to go
about fixing? I tried in other computer but same results. I have replaced
this drive but don't want to trash it if it is s simple fix.

It's a standard problem. It means that your blank is poorly matched to
your writer. In this case, it's likely that you are using a disc rated
for high speed where the drive is a low-speed. Even if the box says the
blank will write at low speed, it may not do it well or, in your case,
at all in a specific drive.

If all else fails and you don't want to replace your writer, try a
DigitalAudio blank. Though the royalty it pays and the smaller market it
has will raise its price, at least it must record at 1x, so will handle
the low speed of your drive relatively well.

Likely either the disc is very incompatible with the drive, or the drive
is
bad (quite likely a weak laser), though it's possible it could be due to
dust in the drive (you could try blowing it out with compressed air). The
error message means that the drive exhausted all of the PCA (Power
Calibration Area) on the disc without finding an appropriate laser power
setting for the disc.
