New chipsets for consumer motherboards?
Hi all,
Are there any new chipsets coming out to max the performance of the QX6850 type cpu's in the Intel motherboard line? I heard that Nov is a month that Intel will release a new line of faster/smaller cpus? later.... |

So far as I know, a replacement for the G33/P35/X38 is not due out for a while. -- Nate Edel http://www.cubiclehermit.com/ preferred email | "With all the accumulated wit and wisdom in the is "nate" at the | world, it is pointless to try to select a few posting domain | choice quotes." This page mentions a X48 chipset due out next year that will officially support 1600FSB. http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/10/...ng/page12.html At Intel's "Meet the Penryn Experts" event in Munich, an Intel representative confirmed this by saying "On the desktop, I don't think FSB makes a difference". Nonetheless, it has become known that FSB 1600 processors, which will require the new X48 chipset, will be released next year. Presumably there will also be lower end G4_/P4_ chipsets. -- Nate Edel http://www.cubiclehermit.com/ preferred email | "With all the accumulated wit and wisdom in the is "nate" at the | world, it is pointless to try to select a few posting domain | choice quotes." It appears that you are referring to the soon to be released 45nm chips.
If you look at the specs for most new MBs you will see they mention being 45nm compatible. "***** charles" wrote in message ... Read my other post in this thread, and be aware that several current MBs
will do 1600FSB. X38 + P35 chipsets are only recent so I'm not sure why you are so interested in replacements. There will always be something 'on the horizon'. "Nate Edel" wrote in message ... I just read that "penryn" will be out tomorrow (2007/11/12).
I just didn't want to be to far behind the tech curve when getting and building a new computer from parts. thanks, charles.... "Core2Duo" wrote in message ... Penryn should work with any of the current generation of chipsets. No idea at this point whether those will work with Nehalem when it comes out next year or not, but odds are pretty good that the ones that will do 1600FSB will. Intel BOXDP35DPM and BLKDP35DPM just to pull two off NewEgg. -- Nate Edel http://www.cubiclehermit.com/ preferred email | "With all the accumulated wit and wisdom in the is "nate" at the | world, it is pointless to try to select a few posting domain | choice quotes." There are several MBs out now (w/ various Intel chipsets) that support 1600FSB. Look at some MB manufacturers' sites & select their 775 socket MBs and you'll have lots of fun. |
