Western Digital VelociRaptor benchmark request
I got 5 Western Digital VelociRaptors (WD3000GLFS) for installation in
my current machines. I have about a two week window to do some benchmarks. Please send me the names of any public free benchmarks that you want me to try. I don't a PCI-X or PCI-e to run the benchmarks on, so I can't do meaningful large file tests, but I can do good tests for multiple operations at the same time and creating and deleting lots of files. I am willing to buy a PCI-X controller that runs in a PCI slot if you can suggest one that can handle more than 4 drives and supports RAID and interchanging of non-RAID disks. I expect to try: making 100000 or so 0 length files in about 500 directories making 100000 or so 100-byte files in about 500 directories copying each set of test data back and forth between two disks or RAID arrays on 5 or fewer disks total. Zeroing out the now free $MFT entries from the above files Doing the above stuff on NTFS disks and virtual NTFS disks (Virtual disks may not write the metadata in a secure manner, so may run faster than real disks.) I'm also willing to run text command files (BAT, etc.) that you supply that does a timed test for something specific if you tell me what disk arrangement you want. My tests so far indicate that the disks are significantly faster than Western Digital WDC WD1500ADFD-00NLR0 disks and Seagate ST3100340NS, ST3500320AS, and other stuff for small files, but the new 500GB and 1000GB 7200RPM drives usually win for large files. (I will only be doing benchmarks for small files.) I'm willing to get 1 or 2 15000 RPM SAS drives for comparison if someone can find me a $300 PCI-X controller that runs in a 32-bit PCI slot and supports 4 or more SAS and SATA drives. (RAID doesn't have to be supported by this controller.) Thank you for you suggestions. |
