Boot problem - new computer

I'm sorry for bad english, but i hope so that you will understand my
problem.

I have a problem when i want to start up a computer. I have epox 8RDA+
rev2.2 and 2500+ XP-M. When i turn on the computer POST stopped on 29! Can
you tell me where is the problem, manual was ussefull. This is manual's
description of problem:

29h - 1. Program CPU internal MTRR (P6 & PII) for 0-640K memory address.
2. Initialize the APIC for Pentium class CPU.
3. Program early the chipset according to CMOS setup.
4. Measure CPU speed.
5. Invoke video BIOS.

Computer is new. Cooler on CPU was fixed in computer shop! I mount other.

Problem is not in VGA, memory or pheriperals - that was tested!
I'm not sure for IDE controlers!!

Is it possible that my MB doesn't support mobile athlon?? I don't think so
but evrything is possible...

Does anyone know what 29h means, or where is the problem???
I think it is in CPU, but i'm waiting for your replyes.

Thanks a lot for replyes!!!

Go with your "gut" feeling here, and see if your right.
My A+ book says sometimes it's good to go with a gut feeling on
a system problem. 640K I think is system memory, which is on the MB.
Fact, I'm sure of it, 640K is system memory, the system memory is
not shaking hands with something. & it Very well could be the (CPU)
After all these years, one thing I've not seen them even try to get rid of
is that 640K of a MB memory, if I can remember, you can run small
Programs off of it, but just small EXE's Doom, Doom2
I think it's called system cach..
" I hope my spelling is ok"

Denny. ;-) :-)

Thanks a lot for replyes!!!

just from experience: these epox boards have a habit of blowing their caps.
take a close look at the motherboard - the caps (capacitors) are the
relatively large (and usually blue coloured) tubes that stand up from the
board to about a height of 20-25mm. if the ends of these tubes are at all
swollen, then they are on the way out.

It's not very likely to be a capacitor problem on a brand new board !

Strip the system down to just the basics i.e. CPU/cooler, 1 module of
memory, gfx card, power supply (no CD or HD). See if it goes any further
through the POST sequence then.
If still no luck remove the board from the case place it on a non conductive
surface and give it another try with just the basics installed. If it POSTs
when it's out of the case it's likely that you have something causing a
short, often a case mounting stud.
If it still does not work the only option is to troube shoot by borrowing
and swapping out components, try the memory first.

i have to disagree. twice recently i've had cap problems with brand new
epox boards. if it had been once i'd have written it off as happenstance
but twice certainly made me think ... well, twice. admittedly neither of
them was the model that the OP mentions; but the experience has made me
wary. it can't hurt to check the caps.

your advice to the OP is good, notwithstanding.
