DDR went up to 400 (500 for the top shelf overclock specials)
DDR2 went up to 1066 (1200 for the top shelf overclock specials)
DDR3 is tipped to reach 3000 by the time DDR4 retail desktop boards arrive
So it has been stretched out quite a long way

Yeah those DDR memory are so cheap compare with Intel/Microsoft/
Apple. Why is that? Because DDR memory are virtually produced by
Asians. With dollar currency you use you are able to buy cheap Asian
made memory since Asian labor cost is cheap. Samsung DDR
manufacturing labor cost is around 50% of US labor cost.

Memory from Radio Shack cost $250 for 384K of memory to populate a
640K motherboard for EMS at 1M. That ol'
tanner, skin trapper and fur trader, had a pretty good thing going
with Zylog 80s once upon a time long ago. I'm never less than amazed
when making my decade pilgrimage to Rat Shack, at how insolent sales
staff are trained to treat a greater but apparently avidly-contented
populace, all so perfectly sensible now, when barking out voice
commands for the death of the PC over their cloud and into studded
applications worn on a wris****ch WWW3 tablet.
